I need ideas for random things to happen to a 40k battlefield. So far I have things like Out of Ammo! where a unit runs out of ammo and has to lose a turn reloading, or charge the enemy immediately, or How'd we get Here? where a unit is randomly teleported by warp energy. I would like to have a D66 table where each roll has two options for effects. That's 72 different events, so I need plenty.

That is good. I was made for battle, and mine will be the age of the fighter. Let other gods rule when the struggle is over. I will ride the howling tempest and perish in the last great storm.

How about one where they step on a land mine from a previous battle, and it could be either a solitary mine or they discover a mine field?

You could have lots of stuff involving bad weather, like a torrential downpour or lightning storm that affects terrain like movement speed, etc.

Or maybe hostile wildlife that attacks whoever it is closest to?

I'm sure I could think of a lot of stuff, given time.

"The Machine Spirit's acting up again..." - Roll a d6 for every vehicle on the board. On a 1-2 it counts as immobilized until the next turn. 3-4: It's all good. 5-6: It can't shoot in the next turn.

"It's out of control!" -  The enemy has struck something on the vehicle that sends it careening. Choose one non-walker vehicle on the board. It immediately moves 2d6 in a random direction determined by the Scatter Die, with it's front facing the direction indicated by the scatter die.

"The Floor gave out!" -  Choose a unit inside a building/ruin. That unit must immediately make a Dangerous Terrain test, with normal armor saves applied.

"Something took Jimmy!" - Choose a unit inside a Forest/wooded terrain feature. Each model must immediately make an Initiative Test/Dangerous Terrain Test/Strength Test/Whatever or suffer one wound with no armor saves.

"What's that ticking...?" - Choose one terrain feature on the board at random. Every model within 2d6" of the terrain feature immediately suffers 1d6 STR 4  AP6 hits, and the terrain feature is replaced with a crater. Models/Units in the terrain feature suffer 1d6 STR 8 AP4 hits.

"Strafing run." - Aerial support has arrived! At your shooting phase, Place a  marker (About the size of a Termy Base) at one table edge, then another marker on the opposite board edge. Draw a straight line between the two markers. Any unit (friend or foe!) that is crossed by this line suffers 2d6 STR 4 AP 5 hits. Remove these markers at the end of the shooting phase.

"Game over, man. Game over!" - Nominate one unit. It immediately takes a morale test.

"How'd it get dark so quick?" - For the remainder of the game, use Night-Fighting rules.

"Look! Up in the sky!" - See Crash & Burn in Planetstrike. Basically debris falls from orbit and hits the battlefield.
